Summary
The Bed Placement Coordinator is responsible and accountable for promoting organizational patient throughput and assisting with optimization of bed capacity. This role will collaborate with nursing and ancillary services to ensure timely admissions, transfers and discharges. The electronic medical record (EMR) will be utilized to assign patient beds and change accommodation codes accordingly. Must be able to use a computer and be willing to learn additional computer skills as they relate to healthcare delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Accurately assigns patient beds and updates patient accommodation status in EMR
· Performs walking rounds in patient care areas to identify bed capacity and throughput issues
· Communicates effectively with colleagues and other departments (i.e. nursing, registration, environmental services, etc.)
· Coordinates and collaborates patient throughput efforts with the Clinical Nursing Supervisor and Nursing leadership
· Attends required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
· Demonstrates a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have basic medical terminology and computer skills.
Required Experience: Minimum one year hospital experience as a medical secretary or in a role that facilitates acute care patient placement.
