Engineering Manager (Fabrication & Automation and Controls)
The Role
This is a new position that combines leadership responsibilities for both fabrication process engineers and our automation and controls team. You will provide leadership, vision, and management of engineering activities for these teams. You will also play an integral role in supporting production and driving Innovation and continuous improvement.
Job Details
Manage the Fabrication Engineering and Automation & Controls teams within the Process Engineering department.
- Manage the Fabrication Engineering team to establish and meet all project-related timelines and goals:
- Attend hardware product development meetings (CPT meetings) for all product lines (Silhouette/Nantucket, Vignette, Luminette, Pirouette & Sonnette). Work with Fabrication engineers to identify equipment, fixture, tool, and process needs to meet product development and launch plans. Establish project plans (timelines, resource requirements) to meet these needs.
- Work with Fabrication leadership and Fabrication engineers to identify continuous improvements opportunities in all Fabrication process areas. Quantify & prioritize these safety, quality & cost savings opportunities. Develop project plans (timelines, resource requirements, etc) to find & implement solutions for priority opportunities.
- Follow-up with individual engineers regularly to check the status of projects and tasks. Identify any issues or challenges and help them find solutions.
- Leads efforts to improve safety, quality and cost savings in all Fabrication areas. Identifies, quantifies and prioritizes improvement opportunities. Establishes project plans and helps to guide and drive projects to completion
- Manage the Automation & Controls team to establish and meet all project-related timelines and goals.
- Work with Process Engineering leadership, Operations, and Maintenance to identify projects and tasks that require Automation & Controls support. Work with the Automation & Controls team to assign resources and establish project plans to meet project or task timelines and goals.
- Follow-up with individual engineers regularly to check the status of projects and tasks. Identify any issues or challenges and help them find solutions.
- Promote collaboration within your team and within the Process Engineering team as a whole.
- Work with all members of your team to establish individual plans to support their personal and professional development.
- Responsible for timely decision making and solid communication necessary to maintain smooth operations within the team and with other departments.
- Develops standardized processes and work practices to improve team productivity and output.
- Actively mentors and provides guidance to engineers and technical staff. Assists in developing leadership and technical skills.
- Promote and help maintain a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Acceptable Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering technology
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a technical field.
- Several years of practical work experience as a processor manufacturing engineer at a production facility is desired.
Qualifications and KSA's:
- Solid knowledge of computer use and software such as Word and Excel
- Solid knowledge of the full product line that is being produced and work processes involved with the production
- Solid knowledge of the principles of the safe operation of each piece of production equipment
- Solid knowledge of machining to be able to design and build an equipment part or machine utilizing the most economical and durable goods.
- Some knowledge of the application of industrial control systems, including plc's, HMI's, servo motion control and other forms of industrial automation.
- Expert knowledge of the principles of Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
- Expert knowledge in communicating in both written and verbal form with other Engineers, representatives of other departments and suppliers.
- Expert knowledge of various coaching techniques to develop and motivate members of the Process Engineering staff.
- Expert knowledge of report writing and documentation of design changes and modifications.
- Skill in the safe operating shop and mill equipment such as lathes, welders, punch presses.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions to repair production equipment.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and equipment schematics.
- Ability to exhibit strong leadership skills to motivate Process Engineering staff members to achieve individual and department goals and objectives.
- Ability to recognize conditions not requiring personal attention and delegate assignments to the most appropriate staff member of the Process Engineering department.
- Ability to communicate expectations and standards of performance to the department; to evaluate work performance, and give feedback.
- Ability to demonstrate ease and composure in order to present technical subject matter before an assembled group of people.
