Coding/Reimbursement:
- Assigns codes for diagnoses, treatment, and procedures according to the appropriate classification system
- Utilizes coding principles/guidelines such as ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 Coding
- Reviews provided documentation to determine principal diagnosis, complications, secondary condition, etc.
- Assigns appropriate DRG based off of provided documentation
- Assigns present on admission (POA) indicators values for inpatient diagnoses
- Abide by NMHS Coding Compliance Policy, ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT Coding
- Guidelines, Standards, and Ethical Coding
- Compliance with national and local coverage determination issues
- Serves as a resource for coding related questions as needed
- Attends, demonstrates, and participates in required in-services, quarterly meetings, performance improvement activities, and other educational programs
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
- Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues
- Associates Degree in Health Information Technology or related health care field; required
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); required.
- 3 years of Inpatient coding; required
- Pre-screening assessment cumulative average score of 80% or higher; preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of coding experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 schemes; required
- Knowledge of medical terminology; required
- Must be able to read and interpret medical record documentation; required
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software programs (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, etc.)
- Good verbal and written communication skills; required
- Minimum of 90-days on-site training
