JOB DESCRIPTION:
- The Executive Director is the administrative officer of the Northern Colorado Medical Society (NCMS), charged with furthering the stated goals of the Society. The Director is relied upon to effectively communicate NCMS positions on various issues to medical, governmental, and community groups.
- The Executive Director facilitates the Society's success as an effective medical organization in today's political and medico-legal environment through advocacy, organizational management Board governance, and - maintaining current knowledge of ongoing developments in the health care industry - organized medicine and external influences.
- The Director acts as liaison to the Society membership and is responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of Society business.
- This is a salaried position, up to 1.0 FTE.
SUPERVISION:
Reports to the NCMS President and is accountable to the NCMS Executive Committee, as well as Colorado Medical Society (CMS) Chief Executive Officer
SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises Society business, including the recruitment, training, and termination of NCMS employees and/or contract labor, and delegation of tasks to ensure that staff/contract time is used in the most efficient manner practicable.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Include, but are not limited to the following
- Provide consultation to the Board in developing effective policies and positions on pertinent issues and execute action plans as directed. Identify, monitor, and provide analysis of developments important to the Society that influence health care policy, regulatory compliance, medical practice viability and other relevant trends.
- Establish, implement, and manage events and programs helpful to the membership and consistent with the Society's mission.
- Establish recruitment and outreach activities to ensure the continued growth, member retention and viability of NCMS.
- Provide appropriate support services to members and seek new opportunities to meet member needs.
- Manage the society's finances, which includes but is not limited to preparing the annual budget, maintaining fiscal responsibility in accordance with the budget, and working with the Society's accounting firm to update and maintain internal control systems.
- Act as the initial interface between NCMS and the public in a manner that reflects well upon the Society and creates a positive impression in the community.
- Maintain and grow relationships with Northern Colorado Legislators and NCMS members.
- Provide administrative and policy support to the NCMS Board of Directors and Executive Committee, the NCMS representative on the CMS Board of Directors, and all other NCMS committees and workgroups. This would include but are not limited strategic planning, crafting minutes, organizing meetings and agenda development.
- Provide appropriate information and support for the annual transition of NCMS leadership to assure organizational continuity including administrative responsibility for the nomination and election of new officers and other positions.
- Collaborate with the CMS and other component and specialty societies on policy and program development, membership recruitment and retention, advocacy, and overall support of organized medicine objectives in Colorado.
- Execute effective communications with the membership for information sharing, event promotions, member benefits and other news pertinent to northern Colorado.
- Manage and grow opportunities to develop sources of non-dues revenue, e.g., annual sponsors, advertising revenue, program sponsorship or exhibits, or opportunities to partner with other organizations.
- Supervise other NCMS staff and/or contract labor and delegate tasks appropriately.
- Administer other association management duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of three years experience in executive or senior-level leadership in nonprofit management.
- Understanding of nonprofit financial management, accounting, and activity-based cost budgeting.
- Strong analytic, planning, and multi-tasking, time management, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, sound decision-making skills, and results-oriented and positive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong background in Board management and strategic planning.
- Ability to inspire and induce various stakeholders to work together toward a common purpose; ability to lead through collaborative decision making and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Board members, NCMS members and Northern Colorado legislators.
