Computer Operations Technician (#00389)
Information Technology Services (ITS) at Old Dominion University is seeking a full-time employee to serve as a Computer Operations Technician I. The position is responsible for providing timely and accurate technology support services through effective network monitoring, effective system monitoring, effective computing equipment operations, effective enterprise printing, and quality first level customer support to walk up and telephone inquiries.
Required qualifications include:
- Demonstrated knowledge of PC workstation operation, principles and desktop functions in a centralized client/server environment and working knowledge of UNIX client/server environments.
- Working knowledge of network operations and monitoring in a data network communications environment.
- Working knowledge of computing equipment and peripherals to include laser printing systems, tape backup systems, SANs, and communication systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in order to explain computer related situations, resolutions, and issues to staff and customers.
- Ability to interact effectively with IT customers and staff. Ability to multitask.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous work experience and training with computing environment currently utilized by the University is preferred.
- Preferred individual should have previous experience in the use of formal network/software monitoring tools with previous experience in a similar hardware, software and functional environment.
- Preferred experience would include use of optical scanning equipment, control of Enterprise Backup systems, and High Speed Laser Printing Systems.
- Previous technical training in applicable computer operations, network monitoring, data networking, equivalent of A+ or Net+ certification is also preferred.
- Two years college or demonstrated equivalent work experience.
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
