Position Summary: PeopleForBikes (PFB) seeks a full-time content manager to create and manage content related to all Local Programs, including PlacesForBikes, the Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) and Youth Cycling. This includes writing stories and managing social media and website updates for BBSP, writing about city efforts to build support for and implement connected mobility networks, guiding script development for a video series, and producing reports, one-pagers and other written material for Local Programs audiences, partners and funders.
Additional Description:
The Local Programs Writer and Content Manager primary duties are to 1) research and write about all issues related to bike share, bicycling, mobility networks and mobility equity, with a special focus on efforts to increase ridership in low-income and communities of color, 2) manage social media accounts and website for BBSP, and 3) create, add to and manage content for Local Programs social media, website and blogs.
The majority of the content will be published on Local Programs websites and blogs. Responsibility also includes taking or acquiring pictures and simple video to be used alongside content. Story types may include sharing grantee programs and accomplishments, interviews with shared micromobility users, operators and city staff, distilling research papers into key concepts and findings, identifying trends in access to mobility options by neighborhoods or finding an equity-related angle in a media article that mentions biking, and disseminating news about related work from Local Programs partners. Additionally, the Local Programs Writer and Content Manager will be tasked with supporting the development of an educational video series, including website updates, video production, script writing, and marketing plan.
The Local Programs Writer & Content Manager will help PeopleForBikes and the Local Programs team identify key audiences for content and develop metrics to track the effectiveness of communications in order to grow readership across multiple channels and attract viewers to PeopleForBikes and Local Programs websites.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produces and manages all content on Local Programs websites; minimum of eight blogs created and posted per month
- Develops an editorial plan annually
- Manages BBSP social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
- Updates and adds content to the BBSP website, including resources, events and images
- Collaborates in the ongoing development of the BBSP brand
- Works closely with PeopleForBikes staff to adhere to budget guidelines and deliver on editorial objectives
- Manages relationships with other blog contributors
- Monitors and analyzes readership across multiple channels and strives to increase it
- Defines target audiences and tailors content accordingly
- Pitches blog content to other relevant blogs and news sources
- Monitors and records placement of blog content
- When it is safe, willingness to travel occasionally
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding, interest and experience in equity issues, community outreach, social justice and equity and justice in transportation and mobility
- Writing experience and a degree in English, public policy or public health OR at least three years of journalism experience
- At least two years of experience writing published content
- Familiarity with mobility-related efforts of city government
- Enthusiastic about developing connections and contacts in mobility and media
- Working knowledge of city planning jargon and the ability to write technically as well as translate for a broader audience
- Experience managing and creating content for the web
- Ability to find and use basic HTML commands and navigate website content management system
- Ability to cooperate and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisor and outside contacts
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
- Team-oriented and able to accept ideas and strategy from other individuals
- Self-directed and able to carry out assignments without supervision
- Enthusiastic for getting people safely around the places they live and work

Compensation and benefits:
This "at-will" position offers an annual salary of $50,000 - $60,000. PeopleForBikes offers an excellent and comprehensive benefits package.
