Cook - DeSmet Retirement Community
We currently have an open position for a Cook at our DeSmet located in Florissant MO.
JOB DUTIES:
-Helps plan and coordinate menus.
-Determine time and sequences of cooking operation to meet meal-serving hours.
-Assign specific tasks to kitchen personnel (I.e. salad prep, baking, cleaning, etc.)
-Cook meals according to menu and number of persons to be served.
-Determine size of food portions and observes working serving food.
-Serve meals.
-Evaluate and solve problems encountered such as substituting items on menus, reusing cooked food, and reducing food waster and spoilage.
-Take and keep accurate temperature record logs.
-Evaluate time and need for meals to be pulled for thawing and prepare food items.
-Clothing attire is clean, unstained, well fitted free of wrinkles no frayed edges, hair is clean and well groomed and totally restrained by a hair net at all times.
-Good hand washing techniques and gloves are when serving residents.
-Removing trash liners from large and small waste cans in dining room and take outside to dumpster. Ensure dumpster lid is closed. Replace with new liners.
-Complete duties on the cleaning schedule daily and weekly.
-Clean out garbage disposal and food screens and trap.
-Drain and clean out the inside and outside of dish machine.
-Ensure floor is swept and mopped in the dish machine area and nothing is left lying under the tables.
-Must be able to stoop, bend, crouch, lift heavy things and carry heavy food cases up to 50 pounds, stand and walk most of shift.
-Knows and follows company policy on infection control, food handling and storage and sanitation procedures.
-Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families and staff.
-Is responsible for checking work schedule for days and times to report to work.
-Is responsible for clocking in and out from start and end of shift and to and from lunch.
-Is familiar with all chemicals used in kitchen and uses and stores all chemicals in a safe manner according to policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must process knowledge of food service and nutrition. At management request; enroll in continuing education classes pertaining to job. Previous dietary experience desirable. Previous geriatric experience desirable, Must be able to organize and self-motivate. Must be a team player.
This is a Full-Time position.
