Steel Structures, Inc. is under New Ownership & Management and is seeking Welders & Layout/Fitters (Work located near St George, UT).

Reports To: Shop Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Description:
- The Welder is responsible for permanently join pieces and/or assemblies that have been temporarily fit in place by tack welds. The Welder welds materials according to the detail drawings and/or the weld symbols left by the layout/fitter.
- The Layout/Fitter is responsible for fabricating the assigned products listed on the production schedule in accordance with the requirements listed in the detail drawings.

- Follow the directions of the Shop Superintendent.
- Read blueprints.
- Read welding symbols.
- Follow company welding procedures.
- Operate production equipment.
- Move materials/products to various stations in the shop.
- Clean and maintain work area.
- Layout Fitter specifically will layout and fit steel with accuracy and efficiency.
Qualification/Skills:
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and welding symbols.
- Ability to read and understand welding procedures.
- Possess mathematics skills.
- Possess AWS welder certification or be capable of passing welder certification tests.
- Ability to verify welds comply with AWS requirements.
- Ability to safely operate production equipment as instructed by the Shop Superintendent.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to work standing up for an extended period of time.
- Must have steel experience
Education Requirements
- Layout/Fitter - High school diploma
- Welder - High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience Requirements
- Three (3) years experience in welding including:
- Filler metal control and storage
- Production welding
- Welding inspection
- Technical training at a college or apprenticeship program can be substituted for experience. One year of school is equivalent to one (1) year of experience.
- Education requirements may be waived if sufficient experience and knowledge are demonstrated.
Training Requirements
- This position requires at least two (2) hours of training annually.
- Training subjects will promote and support the qualifications and skills noted above.
- Training will incorporate AWS inspection and fabrication requirements.
- Training will incorporate the dimensional acceptance limits established by AWS, AISC, and company operation procedures.
